ARE YOU ASKING THE RIGHT QUESTIONS?

YOU NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU ASK...

Trusting your Electrical Contractor is a must. After all, you’re putting the safety of your home or business in their hands, but there are still some things you should ask before, as well as during your electrical projects. It is essential for you to protect your investments and your property by having all the answers to any questions that may, or may not come to mind. Below is a shot list of questions to get you started…

ARE YOU LICENSED AND INSURED?
In most States and Municipalities; Electrical Contractors are required to be fully licensed and insured in the electrical field. This will confirm that you are dealing with a trusted professional, and that they can offer some kind of guarantee for the work performed in your home or business.

EXPERIENCE. HOW MUCH DO YOU HAVE?
Working with an Electrical Contractor who is experienced is the difference between knowing when your City requires a permit for certain types of electrical work, as well as other “red flag” or “unique” scenarios, or not. Experience in the electrical field also means that they are keenly aware of; and adhere to current electrical code. Also, an Experienced Electrician will make fewer mistakes, which means a more efficient turnaround time, as well as a better job all around.

WHAT ARE YOUR SPECIALTIES?
As a whole, every electrical project has its own set of special requirements, so don’t hesitate to ask your Electrical Contractor about the areas of electrical work they specialize in. These specialties could be anything from panel replacements, LED lighting, installing security cameras…etc. The selection process questions for an Electrical Contractor; should align with your needs, and with the outcome you expect to receive during the duration and completion of your project.

WHAT DOES YOUR ESTIMATE INCLUDE?
In addition to pricing and time involved to complete your project, be sure to discuss incidental items, such as repairing drywall, trenching, and other things that could possibly be affected by electrical work done in your home or business. Chances are, they will be your responsibility to complete.

HOW LONG SHOULD MY PROJECT TAKE?
Keep an open line of communication with your Electrical Contractor so you both can schedule appointments and work accordingly. An experienced contractor will give you a detailed estimate of the scope of work needed for your project, and a timeline that will be involved, so you can schedule your life around the completion of your project. They should also provide you with contact information in the event you have questions.

WHO WILL PERFORM THE WORK?
Don't assume the person you speak with will be the one doing the scope of work involved.  Ask about the different qualifications, or any combination of workers; as sometimes a job will require more than one Electrician to complete your project.
